Divorce Care

We’re pleased to announce that Hillcrest Baptist Church will begin offering a DivorceCare ministry this fall. Separation and divorce are often the most painful and stressful experiences that an individual will ever face.  The goal of DivorceCare is to provide a friendly, caring, Christian support group to nurture and minister to those who find themselves in these situations.  This program is for people in any phase of the divorce experience – separated, newly divorced, even divorced years ago but still struggling with pain or guilt.

DivorceCare meets weekly for 13 weeks.  Each session starts with a time to share prayer requests and praises.  Then the group watches a video seminar featuring experts on divorce and recovery.  After the video, participants spend time discussing the video and sharing life experiences.  Sharing is voluntary but encouraged, and everyone involved in the DivorceCare group is pledged to keep all discussions confidential.  More information on this program may be found at www.divorcecare.com.

If you know of individuals in your church who would benefit from this program, please encourage them to contact us!  Your prayers would also be greatly appreciated.  Many of the folks who attend a DivorceCare group are not Christians, so this is also an evangelistic outreach.

Details of the program are as follows:

Date:  Sundays beginning January 11

Time: 6:00 - 7:30

Place:  Church Library – 2nd floor (Greeters will be available to offer directions)

Childcare:  Nursery is available for children under age 2.  Children ages 2 through sixth grade are welcome to attend Awanas, which meets at the same time.

For more information about DivorceCare or Awanas, please contact the church office at 423-586-0693, or email us at office@hillcrestbaptistchurch.net.  Pre-registration is encouraged but not required.

DivorceCare FAQs

  • What exactly is DivorceCare?
    • DivorceCare is a support group for anyone who is experiencing or has experienced separation or divorce.  We meet weekly, with every session featuring a video presentation by an expert in divorce and recovery.  After the video, we have an opportunity to discuss the video and share as a group.  Everyone involved in the DivorceCare class is committed to confidentiality.
  • Who should attend?
    • Anyone who is dealing with or has dealt with separation or divorce.  All ages are invited.  And it doesn’t matter whether you’re separated, just divorced, or divorced years ago – you’re welcome here.
  • Who leads this class?
    • The video portion features different experts and authors.  The discussion section is facilitated by local group leaders, each of whom has experienced a divorce in his or her past.  The same individuals will lead your group for the entire 13 week class.
  • When do you meet?
    • Sunday nights at 6:00pm
  • When’s the first class?
    • September 7th
  • What about childcare?
    • Nursery is available for children under age 2.  Children ages 2 – sixth grade are invited to attend Awanas, which is a children’s Bible Club program.  Because of the nature of the discussion, children are not allowed to remain in the DivorceCare meeting.
  • What does DivorceCare cost?
    • The class itself is free. A $12 donation to cover the cost of your workbook would be appreciated.
  • I’m not sure this is right for me – can I talk to someone who knows more about it?
    • Please call or email the church office and we’ll have a DivorceCare leader contact you.
